After a brief drums the band launch into an absolutely legendary Other One that is so in the zone it has to be heard to be believed. This is probably the best version of the tour imo. Truckin kicks off this suite in great fashion, with an amazingly high energy jam with plenty of jazzy Other One teases. But the second set jam suite is, much like most of the tour, the highlight here. The whole show is great, and has long been a favorite of mine ever since its partial release on Hundred Year Hall. This amazing performance is possibly the finest of Euro '72, though there are several other contenders including 4-14, 5-11, and 5-26. The world needs it, We need it I need it. How do you kindle hope within yourself after a 40 hour week when in debt and facing jail time for smiling on a cloudy day?īring on the euro 2019 tour for a fresh dose of that Dead magic. the dead cover 2 of those directly, and one indirectly. So when you get freedom of sound, substance, friendshid and unity among not just nationalities, but species, you glimpse the ultimate goal of growing sentience: freedom, peace and longevity for as many life forms as possible. To feel that in itself is very special in Europe Europe, where the fragmentation between people in these tiny "1 hour drive across nations" puts our lofty dreams of being more than animals in check. it brings that sense of a whole continent being a family, or at least a half of it being a family. to have them all in one place for a few concerts every 40 years is special. There is an unavoidable sense of patriotism in it, even if it's not the usual toxic xenophobia that parades as patriotism most often.įinding a euro deadhead is tough these days. The dead are worldly, intelligent and non discriminating, but they are an American band. They gratefully give us their best, because they had one shot at it. so the performance follows that rationale. It's a special place for the band one they never played at again.

The euro tour is special in every context. Grab this one! If we could vote this higher than 5 stars, I would. I hope somebody wanders by this one some day and pays heed to the reviews. ing the "official release", the set list should be, and this makes sense because Bob makes the intermission announcement after Casey Jones.ġ9. If I wanted to turn someone on the the Dead this might very well be the show I'd play for them (but that may be because Europe '72 is the first Dead record that got me). This show is a MONSTER! A 20 song first set! An amazing 2nd set, the jewel of which is not the 36 minute Comes A Time, lol, but the 36 minute Other One that never loses its way. I know the usual theories.the quality of auds and quantity of both soundboards and auds for Europe '72 just isn't there for obvious reasons, and yeah the setlist mistakes and order of not just this show but some of the others from this tour are just off, but still. Why this isn't in the top viewed shows for the whole Dead catalog, let alone 1972, is beyond me. The sound is excellent and the playing stellar throughout. Is it ever!! And this is the version you want to DL.

I bought the official although truncated Hundred Year Hall back when it was released, and knew the rest of the show had to be as good. Boy, you gotta do some digging in here to find this show.
